Why might a tooth need removing?
Very extensive decay, a fracture, an infection, a gum problem or a poor position can lead to discussing an extraction. Before proposing it, the dentist always checks whether the tooth can still be treated and kept.
They explain what can be kept and the consequences of each choice. A wisdom tooth or a more delicate extraction may need a specific examination.
What should be planned before the procedure?
The assessment identifies the tooth concerned, its shape, the neighbouring tissues and the necessary examinations. Mention your illnesses, medicines, allergies and any recent change in your health. Do not change a prescribed treatment without the agreement of the professional who follows it.
The anaesthesia, the course of the procedure and the instructions afterwards are explained before the appointment. You can ask your questions before giving your consent.
What is the aftermath like?
The practice gives instructions adapted to the procedure carried out, in particular to protect the area, for food, hygiene and taking the prescribed medicines. The aftermath is not the same for every extraction.
The signs that should lead you to call back are detailed. Difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness or uncontrollable bleeding require calling 144. Any replacement of the tooth is planned according to healing.
Has an extraction been mentioned?
The appointment checks the indication and prepares the aftermath.

The practice plans short videos to explain the main treatments. This one will be added once it has been filmed. [VIDEO TO BE CONFIRMED]
