What does the first check-up look at?
The dentist looks at the teeth, the gums, tooth eruption and the habits that can influence oral health. This appointment also gives the child time to see the chair and the instruments without starting with a complex treatment.
An early check-up does not mean treatment will be needed. Above all it spots a need and gives advice suited to the age.
How can cavities be prevented in children?
Prevention relies on brushing, diet and check-ups adapted to the child's risk. The practice shows the areas to watch and answers questions about the daily routine at home.
The advice can change with age, independence and the state of the teeth. The appointment therefore gives a personal recommendation rather than one rule for every family.
What happens when treatment is needed?
The dentist explains what was observed, what the treatment aims to fix and how it may unfold. The pace takes the child and the clinical situation into account. When several steps are needed, they are presented to the parents before starting.
How should you talk about the appointment at home?
Use simple, neutral words, without promising that nothing will happen and without describing an experience that is not the child's. You can say that the dentist will count and look at the teeth, then explain each step.

- Estimate and funding

- If the treatment follows an accident, it is reported to your accident insurance (LAA/UVG) or your health insurer. Mention it when booking, the team explains the declaration.
