What can a veneer change?
A veneer can change the visible appearance of a tooth, in particular its shape, certain proportions or its shade. It does not treat every cause of misalignment, wear or discolouration.
The assessment checks each tooth concerned and the smile as a whole. It also looks for cavities, gum problems and forces that could weaken the result.
Which limits should you know?
Depending on the situation, the tooth has to be prepared to receive the veneer. This change can be irreversible. The dentist details the volume concerned, the proposed material and the maintenance constraints.
A veneer can come off, wear or fracture. It does not make the tooth immune to cavities or gum problems. Check-ups remain necessary.
Which other solutions can meet the need?
Whitening can be discussed when the request concerns the shade of natural teeth. A composite restoration can change a more limited area. Orthodontic treatment can act on the position of the teeth.
A crown answers a more heavily weakened tooth, but it covers more structure. The choice depends on the need, the state of the tooth and what can be preserved.
Considering veneers?
The assessment checks the teeth and compares the possible solutions.
