In which situations is a crown discussed?
It may be proposed after extensive decay, a fracture, a large old repair or a root canal treatment. It is not necessary in every case.
The dentist looks at what remains of the tooth, the gums, the root and the forces exerted when chewing. They first check that the tooth can be kept in good conditions.
How is it made?
The tooth is prepared according to the plan, then an impression or a scan is taken to make the crown. A temporary solution can be planned between the steps. The final crown is then checked and fixed.
The number of appointments and the material depend on the situation. The practice explains the proposed choice and its maintenance before treatment.
Which alternatives can be considered?
When enough healthy tooth remains, a more limited restoration can sometimes be suitable. Conversely, if the tooth cannot be kept, the plan may have to address its extraction and replacement.
The comparison covers the amount of tissue to preserve, the expected strength, access for cleaning and cost. The choice follows the examination, not a rule that is identical for every tooth.
Has a crown been mentioned?
The appointment examines the tooth and compares the possible restorations.

The practice plans short videos to explain the main treatments. This one will be added once it has been filmed. [VIDEO TO BE CONFIRMED]
